In order for you to understand how I got to where I am today, I must start at the beginning.  I grew up on a farm in Oxford County.  My love for animals showed at an early age, as I had pets of all sizes; from rodents to livestock, and everything in between.  Dogs of course were a very important portion of my childhood.  As I got older, I decided that I wanted to devote my life to animals, and make them my career choice.  In 1997, I graduated from Ridgetown College with my diploma in Veterinary Technology.  I began working in the veterinary field soon after, and continue to do so until this day.  Initially I worked at a mixed animal practice, however, several years ago I decided to change my career path and became a College Professor teaching in the Veterinary Technology department.  I find my job now allows me to share with the next generation of technicians my devotion to animals.

It was through my career choice that I was introduced to the world of breeding and showing.  I have always been fond of Golden Retrievers, but never thought that I would become this involved with the breed.  I received my first Golden as a gift from a client in 2002. After much debate, my husband and I finally agreed to name our first golden Berkley.

We have added several more goldens to our family over the years.  Our dogs are a large portion of our lives.  Our dogs have participated in "Paws in the Park".  This is a walk that is held annually to raise money for the local Humane Society.  They have also taken part in various "Girl Guide" meetings, "4-H" meetings and "Career Day" at the local high school.  They have attended pre-school on days when the children are talking about animals, and have been involved in pet day at the local nursing home.  They enjoy dressing up for Halloween to greet the "Trick or Treaters", and on occasion to help out with special days at the veterinary clinic.  In 2004 Berkley and Denver attended our wedding ceremony, as well as the reception at the hall.  We truly value dogs and the time that we have to spend with them.  At Berkden Kennels I hope to introduce you to a new member of your family, and perhaps your new best friend.

I once asked Matt if he would have so many dogs if he hadn't met me.  His reply was that he would have a dog as a pet, but probably not this many dogs.  Although Matt would not have chosen this lifestyle without me, he is a constant supporter of the kennel.  Matt enjoys the company of the dogs and helps out whenever he can.
We (all 5 of us) are often seen on weekends at the local dog beach, or out at the local park camping.  We are usually the novelty at the campground, as "Yes, we have 3 dogs!"  I don't think that either of us would have it any other way.
